Cyndi Lauper's Son Faces Sexual Assault Lawsuit Over 2020 Allegations
A woman has filed a lawsuit accusing Declyn Lauper, the son of singer Cyndi Lauper and actor David Thornton, of sexual assault. The legal action, submitted on 23 March 2024, centres on an alleged attack in a New York City penthouse in November 2020.
The plaintiff claims she suffered physical harm, emotional distress, and lasting damage to her self-esteem. She also alleges that Thornton, Declyn's father, knew of his son's prior violent behaviour toward women.
According to the lawsuit, Declyn Lauper invited the woman to the penthouse and sent her money for transport. Once there, she states he became aggressive after she refused to perform oral sex. She alleges he pushed her onto his bed, pinned her arms down, and forcibly smothered his genitals over her mouth.
The woman further claims Lauper took her phone and threatened to destroy it when she attempted to leave. Before this lawsuit, no legal or out-of-court settlements related to Lauper's alleged assaults had been publicly recorded. The filing also names David Thornton, 72, accusing him of enabling the incident. It states Thornton was aware of his son's history of sexual violence and previous settlements for similar conduct.
The case now moves through the legal system, with the plaintiff seeking damages for the alleged assault. The lawsuit marks the first public legal action against Declyn Lauper for claims of this nature. No responses from Lauper, Thornton, or their representatives have been made public at this time.
