Coast Guard deploys 939 personnel for Holy Week travel safety in Mindanao
THE Coast Guard District Southeastern Mindanao (CGDSEM) has intensified maritime safety operations in the Davao Region ahead of the Holy Week observance, deploying a total of 939 personnel across its seven stations and 51 substations as part of Oplan Byaheng Ayos: Semana Santa 2026. The move aims to ensure the safety, security, and convenience of travelers during this peak travel period.
Under the directives of Commandant Admiral Ronnie Gil L. Gavan PCG (CPCG), the Coast Guard has placed ports, ferry terminals, and coastal areas under heightened alert. Deployed personnel are tasked with conducting round-the-clock monitoring, enforcing maritime safety regulations, assisting passengers, and coordinating closely with local government units and partner agencies.
The operation includes strict vessel inspections, passenger assistance desks, and emergency response readiness to address any potential contingencies. The CGDSEM assured the public that it remains fully committed to safeguarding lives and maintaining order in all maritime transportation hubs during this period of increased travel activity.
As of March 31, 2026, 6:00 PM, the Coast Guard reported assisting 74,946 passengers, inspecting 456 vessels and 516 motor bancas, and overseeing 30,943 rolling cargoes. Personnel stationed across the region's ports continue to ensure smooth operations and provide immediate response to emergencies. By April 1, 2026, 6:00 AM, an additional 8,270 passengers had been monitored and assisted.
The CGDSEM urges the public to observe safety protocols, follow advisories, and promptly report any emergencies or irregularities.
Through Oplan Byaheng Ayos, the Coast Guard demonstrates its commitment not only to enforcing maritime regulations but also to ensuring a safe, orderly, and convenient travel experience for all passengers during the Semana Santa period.
