China Unveils AI-Powered Production Line for Deepwater Oil Equipment
China’s first intelligent production line for deepwater oil and gas equipment has been completed in Zhuhai, Guangdong Province. The facility specialises in manufacturing process piping, a critical component that transports fluids like oil and water during offshore operations. The new production line integrates advanced technologies to handle the extreme demands of deepwater environments. These include high pressure, intense heat, and long-term corrosion risks. Process piping quality directly affects the safety and lifespan of offshore facilities.
The intelligent system combines multiple modules into a seamless workflow. These include a manufacturing execution system, AI-powered visual recognition, and automated transport using guided vehicles. Operations range from rust removal and code printing to adaptive welding and logistics. Developed in partnership with domestic equipment manufacturers, the line achieves full automation. Features include flexible scheduling, one-click execution, and remote centralised control. The project team has also established autonomous capabilities in design, manufacturing, and precision coating for deepwater equipment. The production line has now entered the commissioning phase before full operation begins.
This advancement marks a step toward self-sufficient production of deepwater oil and gas equipment in China. The facility’s intelligent systems aim to improve efficiency and reliability in offshore operations. Commissioning will determine its readiness for large-scale deployment.
