Boeing's 737 MAX deliveries surge in May with record monthly gains
Boeing's 737 MAX deliveries surge in May with record monthly gains
Boeing saw a strong month in May as aircraft deliveries rose by a third compared to last year. The company handed over 60 planes, with the 737 MAX leading the way. This marks the best monthly performance for the MAX since late 2024. The 737 MAX programme dominated deliveries, accounting for 51 of the 60 aircraft in May. This surge follows plans to ramp up production from 42 to 47 units per month over the summer. So far in 2026, Boeing has delivered 250 planes, with 198 of them being 737 MAX models.
New orders also arrived in May, including 10 787 aircraft for Lufthansa. The company secured 27 fresh orders overall, though 16 cancellations left a net gain of 11. Among the new commitments were 14 737s earmarked for military conversion. The 787 programme contributed six deliveries in the same period.
By the end of May, Boeing’s order backlog stood at 6,178 aircraft, reflecting steady demand despite fluctuations in monthly figures. The May results highlight Boeing’s push to increase 737 production while maintaining demand for its wider fleet. With deliveries climbing and a substantial backlog, the company continues to strengthen its position in the aviation market. The next few months will test whether the planned production boost can be sustained.
