Public Transport in Anhalt-Bitterfeld District Suspended - Black ice halts all public transport in Anhalt-Bitterfeld district

Public transport in the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district came to a halt early on January 26, 2026. The sudden suspension was caused by widespread black ice on side roads and bus stops. School bus routes were also included in the shutdown, leaving many commuters stranded before dawn.

Vetter Verkehrsbetriebe, the local transport operator, made the decision shortly before 6 AM. Spokesperson Maik Janak confirmed that all services—including school lines—were temporarily stopped. The suspension was set to last until at least 8 AM, though conditions delayed a full restart.

A gradual resumption began around 11 AM as road crews worked to clear the ice. Until then, buses remained off the roads, affecting both regular passengers and students. The company cited safety concerns as the primary reason for the shutdown.

The disruption lasted for several hours before services slowly returned. By mid-morning, most routes were back in operation, though some delays persisted. The decision was made to prevent accidents on untreated roads during the icy conditions.
