Bittensor's TAO token soars 90% as decentralized AI subnets hit $1.5B valuation
Bittensor's native token, TAO, saw a sharp price increase in March 2023, climbing nearly 90% from around $180 to over $332. This surge pushed the combined valuation of its subnet tokens close to $1.5 billion. The growth reflects rising interest in decentralised AI applications across industries like pharma, storage, and trading. The platform's subnets—specialised networks powered by decentralised TAO (dTAO)—are driving real-world use cases. Templar (SN3) now hosts the largest decentralised large language model ever trained, with 72 billion parameters and 1.1 trillion tokens processed. Meanwhile, Targon (SN4) has projected $10.4 million in annual revenue and recently secured $10.5 million in Series A funding.
Chutes (SN64) became the first subnet to exceed a $100 million valuation. Hippius (SN75) offers blockchain-backed persistent storage and has generated $4.48 million in profit and loss (PnL) to date. NOVA (SN68) targets the $1.5 trillion pharmaceutical sector, focusing on decentralised drug molecule discovery.
Institutional involvement has also grown. Astrid Intelligence increased its stake in Subnet 71 from £400,000 to £500,000. The ecosystem's expansion continues, with discussions about raising the subnet limit to 256. As of recent data, TAO's price hovers near $320, giving the project a market capitalisation of roughly $2.95 billion.
Top-performing subnets like Chutes, Templar, and Vanta are seeing rapid adoption. Their success highlights Bittensor's push into decentralised AI infrastructure, from training models to secure data storage and beyond. The surge in TAO's value and subnet valuations signals strong confidence in Bittensor's decentralised AI ecosystem. With institutional investments rising and subnet applications expanding, the platform's market presence continues to grow. The next phase may include further scaling, as proposals to increase the subnet cap gain traction.
