Bitsurance Secures Funding and Rebrands to Expand Bitcoin Insurance Coverage
Bitsurance, a specialist in Bitcoin insurance, has completed its first funding round and rebranded as Bitsurance GmbH. The company focuses on protecting self-custodied Bitcoin, offering coverage for hardware wallets, multisignature setups, and physical security risks. With this shift, it plans to expand its services and reach beyond the DACH region.
The funding round was led by Alex von Frankenberg, the former managing director of High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF). Other investors include Kristian Kläger from Portner Capital, Jeff Gallas of FULMO, Jochen Maaß, and Sebastian Schulz from Hanse Ventures. The company has not disclosed specific details about how this investment will directly impact its collaboration with terahash.energy on Bitcoin security solutions.
Bitsurance positions itself as one of the first providers in the still-niche market of Bitcoin self-custody insurance. Under the leadership of CEO Christian Wind, founder of SEEDOR, and Philipp Oehler, with Christian Rotzoll as CTO, the company offers structured guidance for securely storing and insuring corporate Bitcoin treasuries.
With its new GmbH structure, Bitsurance aims to introduce higher coverage limits and develop tailored B2B insurance products. The rebranding also signals plans for geographic expansion beyond its current focus on the DACH region.
The funding and rebranding mark a step toward broader insurance solutions for Bitcoin holders. Bitsurance now operates as a GmbH, allowing it to scale its offerings and enter new markets. The company remains focused on addressing the growing demand for secure Bitcoin custody insurance.
