Berlin-Oslo Direct Rail Service to Launch by Summer 2028

A new direct rail service linking Berlin to Oslo is planned for summer 2028. The route will pass through Hamburg, Copenhagen, Malmö, and Gothenburg, offering passengers a long-distance alternative to flying or driving. Operators say the connection will improve travel across Northern Europe by rail. The service will be run jointly by Deutsche Bahn, Denmark’s DSB, and Norway’s Vy. Trains will complete two daily round trips, taking between 14 and 15 hours to travel from Berlin to Oslo. The route will connect three capital cities—Berlin, Copenhagen, and Oslo—along with key hubs in Germany, Sweden, and Norway.

High fuel costs have made long-distance rail travel more appealing compared to cars and planes. The European Commission is backing the project as one of ten pilot schemes aimed at boosting cross-border train connections. Officials hope the new link will encourage more passengers to choose rail for journeys across Northern Europe.

The Berlin-Oslo service is set to launch in mid-2028, providing a direct rail option for travellers. With two daily departures, the route will offer a reliable alternative to air and road transport. The project aligns with broader efforts to expand cross-border rail networks in Europe.
