BBVA Develops a New Technology Architecture With AWS to Accelerate Its AI Solutions

BBVA and AWS revolutionize AI with cutting-edge MLOps architecture for global banking

BBVA and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have unveiled a new MLOps architecture for the bank’s global cloud-based data and AI platform, ADA. The collaboration was showcased at the AWS Summit in Madrid, an event attended by over 10,000 people. AWS later featured the project in its report on AI adoption in Spain as a standout example of technological innovation. The MLOps architecture was developed to streamline AI and machine learning processes at BBVA. It uses Amazon SageMaker to build, train, deploy, and manage models efficiently. Ephemeral development environments on AWS infrastructure allow multiple teams to work simultaneously without disruption.

Automation plays a key role in the system. Operational tasks and validation processes are handled automatically, integrating model development, testing, and deployment into BBVA’s daily tech operations. Governance is also built in, ensuring security and transparency for AI models in the financial sector.

The new architecture has significantly improved efficiency. Over 6,500 users, including 1,000 data scientists, can now develop and deploy AI solutions more quickly. Development times for models used in personalised recommendations and financial forecasting have been cut by up to 75%. The joint project between BBVA and AWS was presented as a case study at the AWS Madrid Summit. It demonstrates how advanced AI adoption can transform operations in large organisations. The architecture is now enabling faster, more secure AI development across BBVA’s global platform.
