Mexico City’s annual Battle of Puebla reenactment took place smoothly this year, thanks to close coordination between organisers and security teams. The event, recognised as Intangible Cultural Heritage three years ago, also saw a key change in its traditional parade route for the first time. The reenactment celebrated General Ignacio Zaragoza’s historic victory over French forces in 1862. As usual, participants dressed as Mexican and French soldiers to recreate the battle in Zacapoaxtla. This year, however, the parade contingents avoided passing through Mexico City International Airport (AICM).

The Venustiano Carranza borough stressed the importance of keeping the tradition alive. Officials noted that the new route would ease traffic for thousands of drivers heading to the airport or passing through the area. Security and organisers worked together to ensure the event concluded without any disruptions.

The parade’s adjusted path marks a shift from past celebrations. The change aims to reduce congestion while maintaining the cultural significance of the reenactment. Authorities confirmed the event ran safely, with no reported incidents during the proceedings.
