BAE Systems launches Brazil pilot to train military vehicle engineers

BAE Systems Hägglunds has launched a pilot programme in Brazil to boost local engineering skills in military vehicle production. The initiative teams up with Knightec Group Brazil, focusing on technology transfer and cost-efficient design improvements. The move follows recent international contracts for the BvS10 all-terrain vehicle.

The collaboration centres on developing conceptual designs for gear housings used in the BvS10. By leveraging Knightec's automotive sector experience, the partnership aims to cut production costs while enhancing performance. Fabricio Campos, country manager at Knightec Group Brazil, highlighted the goal of building local industrial capability and fostering a sustainable defence ecosystem in the region.

The pilot programme also supports BAE Systems' plans to scale production after securing new orders. Austria has already placed an official request for 100 BvS10 armoured reconnaissance vehicles, specifically for its mountain troops. Lars Pettersson, engineering director at BAE Systems Hägglunds, described the partnership as a step toward future growth, enabling more complex design work and increased manufacturing capacity over time.

No details about specific deployment regions or conflict scenarios have been released so far.

The initiative marks a strategic push to strengthen Brazil's defence engineering sector. With a focus on cost reduction and performance upgrades, the programme could pave the way for broader production scaling. The partnership also aligns with BAE Systems' efforts to meet rising global demand for the BvS10 vehicle.
