Avelo Airlines launches Hartford base with seven new routes and international flights

Avelo Airlines has opened a new base at Hartford's Bradley International Airport (BDL). The low-cost carrier will station three Boeing 737 aircraft there permanently. This move expands its operations in Connecticut and introduces fresh competition for other airlines in the region, including American Airlines, Delta, Southwest Airlines, and United Airlines.

The expansion also brings seven new routes, including Avelo's first international flights from Hartford to Cancun, Mexico, and Montego Bay, Jamaica.

The new Hartford base marks Avelo's second in Connecticut, following its existing hub in New Haven (HVN). From BDL, the airline will launch flights to Charlotte/Concord, Wilmington, Daytona Beach, Orlando/Lakeland, and Houston Hobby. These destinations provide entirely new options for travellers in the Hartford area.

Avelo operates as a budget airline, charging extra for services like seat selection, snacks, and drinks. The carrier's growth in Hartford comes as United Airlines also plans to start nonstop flights from the airport to Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) in May 2026.

The expansion increases competition for Breeze Airways, another low-cost airline serving the region. With three aircraft now based at BDL, Avelo aims to strengthen its position in the northeastern US market.

The new routes and base solidify Avelo's presence in Connecticut. Passengers near Hartford will gain access to more destinations, including international ones. Meanwhile, the airline's move adds pressure on competitors like Breeze Airways and United in the coming years.
