Service Restored in Attendorn After Widespread Outages
The situation in Attendorn has returned to normal after a day of major disruptions. By evening, internet and landline phone services were largely back online across the city.
"Good news: the primary issue has been resolved," Deutsche Telekom announced on social media. The city also confirmed that services were being restored. "More and more residents are reporting that both internet and phone lines are working again," said city spokesperson Tom Kleine.
Telekom added that any remaining affected connections would be fixed over the course of the evening.
What Happened?
A critical fiber-optic cable was severed during excavation work, cutting off services to much of Attendorn's city center, according to the city spokesperson. Around 3,000 households were impacted.
Since morning, internet and landline services had been down across large parts of the city. However, emergency numbers for police and fire services remained operational despite the outage, officials said.
The disruptions also affected card payments, particularly in restaurants, while ATMs at Sparkasse Attendorn were unable to dispense cash.
Telekom Repairs the Damage
After the outage was reported, Deutsche Telekom worked urgently to restore service. Repair efforts began in the early afternoon, and by around 8 p.m., relief came: "The primary issue has been resolved."
In the meantime, residents could turn to local fire stations, which remained staffed throughout the evening. Additional support centers were set up to assist those with questions.
