Astana's Baiqonyr district unveils three newly upgraded courtyards for summer
On the eve of Kazakhstan's Unity Day, three newly renovated courtyards were ceremonially opened in Astana's Baiqonyr district, according to the city's official akimat website.
The upgraded courtyards are located at 16 and 18 Republic Avenue, as well as 18 Otyrar Street.
The renovations included updated children's playgrounds, new small architectural features, outdoor fitness equipment, and freshly laid asphalt.
The work was completed in time for the summer season and coincided with the district's traditional Courtyard Day celebrations.
Talgat Rakhmanberdi, the akim (head) of Baiqonyr district, announced plans for a large-scale courtyard renovation program in 2026.
"This year, we plan to open 20 fully renovated courtyards, where everything—surfacing, small architectural elements, sports areas, benches, fences, and asphalt—will be completely updated. Another 50 courtyards will undergo repair and restoration work. This will fully address the district's need for courtyard renovations," Rakhmanberdi stated.
Over the past three years, more than 200 of the district's 252 courtyards have already been renovated.
The opening of the refreshed spaces is traditionally marked by a festival organized by the local residents themselves.
