Astana AI Film Festival Opens $1M Competition for AI-Generated Shorts
The first-ever Astana AI Film Festival has launched its international competition, inviting creators to submit AI-generated short films. With a prize fund of $1 million, the event aims to showcase innovation in artificial intelligence-driven storytelling and filmmaking. Submissions are now open to individuals and teams worldwide, regardless of age or experience. To enter, applicants must produce films of up to 10 minutes using 'full AI' technologies, where AI serves as the main production tool. Each submission must include a project description and be uploaded via the festival’s online platform. The competition features two categories: The Future Worth Living In and an open section celebrating achievements in directing, visual language, storytelling, concept development, and character creation.
A panel of festival organisers and international experts will shortlist 25 projects for both the main and open competitions. An international jury will then select the final winners. Alongside the competition, the festival will host an AI content conference, panel discussions, and pitching sessions.
Submissions close on August 15, with screenings and the awards ceremony taking place from September 28 to October 1 in Astana. Participation is free, ensuring accessibility for all creators. The festival highlights the growing role of AI in creative industries by offering a platform for emerging and established filmmakers. Winning projects will share a $1 million prize fund, while the event’s programme will foster discussions on the future of AI-generated content. The inaugural edition sets the stage for future competitions in this evolving field.
