Aktobe's New Drama Theater Nears Completion with 8 Billion Tenge Investment

A new building for the Tahaoui Akhtanov Drama Theater is under construction in Aktobe. The Kazakh government has allocated 8 billion tenge from its reserve fund to support the project. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev personally directed the initiative, which aims to upgrade the city’s cultural infrastructure. The decision to fund the theater followed a decree signed by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov. The new facility will replace the existing structure and is being built in the Altyn Orda microdistrict. Construction is on track for completion by the end of the year.

The modernised theater will seat 700 spectators across a main auditorium and a smaller performance space. It will also include updated rehearsal rooms and stage areas designed to meet current theatrical standards. The project seeks to improve production quality and provide better working conditions for artistic teams. Beyond the theater itself, the surrounding area will feature public amenities. Plans include a park, leisure centres, and a stadium for community use. The development aligns with Kazakhstan’s broader efforts to preserve and enhance its historical and cultural heritage. Aktobe’s growing population has driven demand for expanded cultural facilities. The new theater is intended to meet this need while reinforcing the city’s role as a regional hub for the arts.

Once finished, the theater will offer state-of-the-art spaces for performances and rehearsals. The project also contributes to the wider revitalisation of Aktobe’s cultural district. Residents and visitors will gain access to improved entertainment and leisure facilities by early next year.
