The job market is shifting as AI reshapes demand for different skills. While some sectors face steep declines in openings, others remain resilient. Skilled trades and hands-on professions are gaining attention as young workers seek stability in an uncertain economy. Office and administrative roles have seen some of the sharpest drops in job postings. Listings for these positions fell by 22% and 19% respectively. Academic professionals in industrial firms also experienced a 22% decline in available roles.

Executive positions took an even bigger hit. In 2025, postings for these high-level jobs in industrial companies dropped by 30%. Meanwhile, roles with repetitive tasks are under growing pressure from generative AI, reducing demand for certain types of labour. The construction, skilled trades, and environmental sectors were not immune to the downturn. Job postings in these areas declined by 14%. However, skilled workers with vocational training in industrial firms saw a smaller decrease of 8%. Despite the overall tight job market, AI is driving a renewed interest in craftsmanship and experience. Young people are now turning toward hands-on professions for long-term security. The stability of these roles contrasts with the volatility in sectors heavily impacted by automation and economic uncertainty.

The job market continues to tighten, but not all areas are struggling equally. AI’s influence is reducing demand for routine-based and administrative work while boosting interest in skilled trades. For now, vocational training and experience remain valuable in an evolving employment landscape.
