A5 motorway resurfacing begins with lane changes and speed limits
A major roadworks project is set to begin on the A5 motorway between Rust and Riegel. The scheme, managed by DEGES (Die Autobahn GmbH des Bundes), will resurface around five kilometres of carriageway. Drivers are being urged to plan ahead as changes to speed limits and lane access take effect.
The construction will focus on renewing the road surface to improve safety. Despite the scale of the work, all four lanes will stay open throughout the project. However, a reduced speed limit of 80 km/h (50 mph) will apply in the work zone.
Some of the most significant disruptions will occur at the Herbolzheim interchange over the summer. Temporary closures of on-ramps to the A5 are planned, though exact dates will be announced in advance by the Autobahn GmbH. To ease congestion, much of the work will take place at night and during weekends. The entire project is scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of this year. Authorities have stressed the need for motorists to allow extra travel time and exercise caution when passing through the area.
The resurfacing work aims to enhance road conditions along a busy stretch of the A5. While all lanes remain open, drivers should expect slower speeds and occasional ramp closures. Officials will provide updates on timings to help minimise disruption.
