Frost Damage - A24 Fully Closed for Repairs - A24 motorway shuts for urgent bridge repairs on February 15

A key section of the A24 motorway in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania will shut down for six hours on Wednesday, February 15. The closure runs from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM between the Hagenow and Wöbbelin exits. Drivers have been warned to expect delays as urgent repairs take place on the 17-kilometre stretch, including the bridge.

This part of the A24 has already faced several full closures this year. Two major bridge projects—demolition and replacement—have caused repeated disruptions. The latest shutdown comes after frost damage weakened the bridge surface, requiring immediate attention.

Heavy construction traffic has worsened the wear on the motorway. The ongoing bridge works, launched in spring 2024, are set to last 24 months. By March 2026, crews will have demolished the old bridges (finished in summer 2024), driven piles for new foundations (completed in autumn 2025), and installed bridge piers (finalised in January 2026).

During Wednesday's closure, a signed detour will guide drivers around the affected bridge area. Authorities have urged motorists to plan extra travel time or use alternative routes where possible.

The temporary shutdown aims to address critical frost-related damage before conditions worsen. With bridge construction ongoing until 2026, further closures remain likely. Drivers in the region should stay updated on traffic alerts for the A24 in the coming months.
