A Million Riders Celebrate International Motorcycle Day 2024
Today marks International Motorcycle Day, the world’s largest biker event. Between 750,000 and 1 million riders are expected to take part. The day promotes motorcycles as a practical way to travel and urges people to leave their cars at home for the daily commute. The holiday began with Andy Goldfine, the founder of motorcycle gear company Aerostich. He established the event in 1989 to highlight the benefits of two-wheeled transport. The first official celebration took place three years later, in 1992.
Since then, the event has grown into a global gathering. Riders from all over the world now join in, making it the biggest motorcycle-related occasion each year. The focus remains on encouraging more people to choose bikes over cars for their everyday journeys.
This year’s turnout again reaches nearly a million participants. The event continues to push motorcycles as a viable alternative to cars. Organisers hope the day will inspire lasting changes in how people commute.
